Inflation in the EU can be compared using the standard Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), or the CPI as it is known in the UK. 

UK inflation was 2.9% in the year to May 2017, compared with 2.7% in April. May's figure is the highest since June 2013. The UK had the third highest rate of inflation in the EU in May.

Inflation in the EU was 1.6% in the year to May, compared with 2.0% in April. Inflation in the Eurozone was 1.4% in May 2017, down from 1.9% in April.

Inflation was 1.4% in Germany and 0.9% in France in May 2017.
