Support for Small Firms

This Paper is a guide to current government schemes designed to improve access to funding and other advice and support to the small firms sector.

There are three main strands of assistance for business.  Two funding streams - equity investment and a range of grants and loans from government, private investors and non-traditional lenders like crowd funding platforms. Lastly, there is help with information and advice with running a business or with specialist activities such as government procurement.  The recently appointed position of Small Business Commissioner has, as one function, improving late payment problems.
