Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is a way of ‘decarbonising’ fossil fuel power generation, through capturing and storing the carbon dioxide (CO2) produced.
While there are currently no CCS projects left open for consideration in the UK, the Government has identified CCS as an area of strategic importance in its recently published Clean Growth Strategy. The strategy promises investments of up to £100 million in leading edge CCS and industrial innovation and plans to set up a CCS Council in partnership with industry to help develop the option of deploying the technology at scale in the UK.
