Holocaust Memorial Day takes place annually on 27 January. According to the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust, a charity established and funded by the Government to “promote and support Holocaust Memorial Day in the UK”, the day provides an opportunity to “remember the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, the millions of people killed under Nazi Persecution and in subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur”. The date marks the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp in Poland, which took place on 27 January 1945.
