Asylum Decisions: Social Indicators page providing summary statistics on asylum decisions in the UK.

There were 24,895 initial asylum decisions made in 2016, which was 3,727 less than in 2015.

7,137 principal applicants were granted asylum at initial decision, 29% of all decisions. A further 1,328 people were granted discretionary leave, humanitarian protection, or some other form of leave to remain. 

Of those granted a postive asylum decision in 2016, around 19% were from Syria, 16% from Iran, 14% from Sudan, and 12% from Eritrea.

In 2016, 40% of asylum appeals determined were allowed. There were 12,581 appeals determined, of which 5,051 were allowed.
